Chelsea Light Moving, 'Chelsea Light Moving' [Listen]

Since Sonic Youth are on a hiatus Thurston Moore started up a new band called Chelsea Light Moving, their self-titled debut record comes out March the 5th via Matador Records, but until then you can stream it here thanks to NPR.

You can't mistake it for anyone else but Thurston, so if you are a SY follower than it's defiantly for you.

My Concert Ticket Stubs - Nirvana – Maple Leaf Gardens – 1993

Who could have known that four and a half months Kurt would be dead and Nirvana along with him, but seeing Nirvana live is one of my top 10 concerts of all-time. We didn't have the greatest seats (I remember us jumping down a few sections) but we were there and at the time they were still the biggest band in the world, so even as cheesy as it sounds we were all watching music history. Interesting note; by this time they had stopped playing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" live, so when it was all over the ones that went just for that one song were all pissed off, but I remember thinking how very cool it was that they didn't play it....how Punk.

Thanks to our good friend YouTube I found the complete show (well 99% complete).

ERIC'S TRIP MOVIE

OK I admit it, I was a bit later than usual in regards to hearing about this Eric's Trip Documentary that Rick White has put together , wait; I hate the phrase "put together" it's not an IKEA bookcase it's a movie dammit, so let's start that over again.

OK I admit it, I was a bit later than usual in hearing about the Eric's Trip documentary, yes there is a documentary that Rick White has painstakingly collected; organized, and digitized hours upon hours of VHS tape, super8 films, photos and audio, so that in the end we have the ERIC'S TRIP MOVIE.

I love history when it comes to music, I have a thing about finding those old grainy shots of bands that no one else has, and in my opinion this documentary is not just about a band, it's not just about the music, it's about a time when mystery still played a part in music, you didn't get a video of a band playing some cover song up on YouTube within' minutes of them leaving the stage, you had to wait for some bootleg tape or album to come along to experience that.

Watching these very intimate moments between the band members breaks down the Eric's Trip story just enough to let us feel like we were there, but the story that still has enough mystery to it so we can feel like fans.

Rick points out in his notes on the films website "Most all the footage was collected from VHS tapes which aren't very HD compared to modern video of course. I don't recommend blowing it up to full screen. The original footage is in 4:3 aspect at 640x480 pixels, and it varies in quality quite a bit. The photos are cleaned up, the music is all remastered and full stereo, and this final edit is just under two hours long. No permissions were gotten for any of the footage i've used that wasn't originally my own, and i really hope all will understand that this movie was made with no intention of profit to be made, and that the footage is very important to this documentative project."

If you are a fan of Eric's Trip and have not seen this yet than stop everything and give yourself a few hours to immerse yourself into their story, their dreamy punk story,  and if you have never heard of Eric's Trip then this is a perfect chance to dig them as a whole.

Below is a teaser for the film, but to watch the complete documentary you have to go to its website HERE and watch it.

Courtney Love covers Jay-Z’s ’99 Problems’

Have to say first is I'm a fan of the original, don't ask me why I just dig it, so when I read about this I was a bit scared to check it out…..but in my opinion she pulls it off, it actually takes the song to a different place…if that's possible.

OK enough of my rambling, here's what I'm going to do…first watch the original by Jay-Z (with my Brotha from another mutha  Rick Rubin) , then check out Courtney's cover and let me know what you think.

Kurt Cobain.......18 Years Later

Going through an issue of Rolling Stone I found this pic of Kurt Cobain that was taken by photographer Jesse Frohman....I don't know why but it's the most haunting pic of him that I have ever seen....even 18 years after his death he still leaves a mark

Sloan’s been around for 20 Years? No Fuckin’ Way

So with all the buzz surrounding Sloan’s 20th Anniversary (I think CHARTattack has dubbed it “Sloanamania”) I thought I’d wind the watch back a few years and see if I could come up with one of if not my all-time favourite Sloan track . Now this was going to be no easy feat, believe it or not these four guys have put out shit load of material in the past 20 years, between their studio albums and live stuff I think it’s like eleven records in total, including their new record "The Double Cross" , so when I actually started thinking about them their power pop harmonies and catchy riffs came flooding back like long car trips listening to a well worn copy of Smeared that had been recorded on both sides of a 90 minute blank tape (just so you didn't have to wait for it to re-wind all the way back to the start) …memories like those you can never get back again…

O.K. enough of that stuff, my favourite Sloan track is…I Am the Cancer, that guitar fuzz at the start than when those vocals kick in…you just can’t touch Sloan when they get on that trip of theirs with those dreamy harmonies.

I know this whole 20th Anniversary thing is probably just a PR campaign dreamed up by their record company to drum up buzz for their new record...I’m not stupid (Stop right there, you know what your mother always said) but if anything has come out of it is that you get to revisit some really great records by a truly talented and very hard working rock band, and that doesn’t happen very often

Someone had to stay

So I can go

Oh you kissed me, kissed me

I can't wait until you kiss me

Until you kiss me

I can't wait till you kiss me

Kiss me again
