Born Ruffians new album 'Birthmarks' due in April

     Canada's own post-punk saviours Born Ruffians finally follow up 2010's 'Say it' with the release of 'Birthmarks', the new album which will see the light of day on April the 16th via Paper Bag Records is their third full length studio album. The twelve-track album was written a demoed over the past three years and was produced by Roger Leavens at Boombox Sound in Toronto.

The Tragically Hip Canada Day 2012 Burl's Creek Family Event Park

     This show was announced a while ago but I thought I'd jump on the band wagon and give it a little ink since it's in my area and all. The Tragically Hip along with Death Cab For Cutie, The New Pornographer’s & The Rural Alberta Advantage are playing July the 1^st at Burl'sCreek Family Event Park which if you don't know is a large outdoor venue about an hour and a half (when traffic is good) north of Toronto, this is the same site that was to play host to the 2009 V-Fest till the festival organizers in their infinite wisdom decided to move it to the Molson Amphitheatre…such a terrible decision, but that was then and this is now.

          From what I have gathered the gates are to open at 3: PM so I would start the drive north a good few hours early in order to get there in time to see the first band hit the stage, but from my personal experience with large outdoor shows and gate times…they never open as planned, so make sure your air conditioning is working.  This is actually a pretty good line-up, but I doubt the Hip's beer swilling fans that only know two of their songs (Blow at High Dough" and "New Orleans Is Sinking") will have any clue who the other bands are*…which is a good thing for the rest of the crowd as maybe they will stay in the beer tents and out of the sight lines.

PS I Love You will embark on a thirteen-date tour starting in Toronto and ending in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario (full list of dates below). The North American tour dates begin on May 15th, days after the band release their much-anticipated second album 'Death Dreams'. The eleven-track LP will be available in Canada and the United States on May 8th and the United Kingdom on May 28th on Paper Bag Records.

     Every once in awhile I come across a track that sticks in my head and won't leave, this track by PS I LOVE YOU featuring Diamond Rings called "Leftovers" is one of those tracks. I really can't go into too much detail why it's won me over because I really don't know, maybe it's because I really dig both of the artists and for them to come together and put something out that's this good is just a real treat for all of us.

Not Your Mother’s Madonna

   I may be a bit late to jump on this but back in April Canadian indie label Paper Bag Records, home to such artists as The Rural Alberta Advantage, PS I Love You and Born Ruffians decided to celebrate the launch of their new website by releasing for free a covers compilation with 9 of their rosters finest covering Madonna’s True Blue record. At first I thought True Blue was a rather odd choice but after giving it a thorough listen to more than once I changed my tone and decided they went the right way.
