Have you heard the
one about the new Bob Dylan record where there are only 100 copies available? Strangely
it's no joke, according to a Sony Music source who told Rolling Stone Magazine "This isn't a scheme to make
money," a Sony Music source tells Rolling Stone. "The copyright law
in Europe was recently extended from 50 to 70 years for everything recorded in
1963 and beyond. With everything before that, there's a new 'Use It or Lose It'
provision. It basically said, 'If you haven't used the recordings in the first
50 years, you aren't going to get any more.'"
This four-CD set titled The
50th Anniversary Collection that comes wrapped in a brown paper cover is already fetching $1000 a pop on eBay, so if
you're a Dylan collector get ready to open that wallet…or wait till it gets a
proper release over here in North America.
